General Mills is making cereal less yummy [tragedy]

Vintage Lucky Charms

New packaging, less flavor

Cereal giant General Mills is reducing the sugar content in some of its leading breakfast cereals, according to a report by the AP.

Cereals targeted to be de-flavorized have their sugar content reduced include: Cocoa Puffs, Trix, Lucky Charms and others.

The move apparently comes after increased complaining by “health advocates” about the sweetness high sugar content of cereals marketed to children. (They are probably just bitter because they’re eating Grape Nuts).

Of course, breakfast cereal is one of the things that make America great and I am crushed that my personal favorite cereal, Lucky Charms, is going to taste a little less magically delicious.

I guess that’s just one less reason to get out of bed in the morning.

Cereal really is why I get out of bed in the morning! But at least Kellogg’s hasn’t messed with Fruit Loops — yet.

Apparently they’ve left Frankenberry off the list too–as they don’t promote in on TV.

I knew cereal was not as good as I remembered when I was a kid but I never thought about why. They did this in 2007 as well. In the last 2 years alone the sugar levels have been reduced 25% in some! Do you believe that? They only think of the children…and not us lonely bloggers that need our morning HFCS fix.

The formulas we knew and grew up with are nowhere near what they once were. They’ve also added and “fortified” most with Vitamin D…Calcium and such.

Maybe the drastic drop in cereal sugar is why I find myself increasingly opting for a morning coke with my breakfast instead of coffee. More corn syrup!
